Very nice original Luftschutz "gladiator" helmet brought back as a war trophy. The exterior retains 98 percent of the original smooth, semi-gloss finish dark blue paint. The decal on the front is in very good condition with some loss and wear. The rear inner skirt is stamped RL2-38/28 from maker Paul Diener of Dresden.  The decal on the inside rim lists the liner size as 57. The 6 finger leather liner is in very good shape with some faded, personal writing. Part of the inscription appears to read "To George and Wanda. The former owner had no more use... (unreadable). 
 
These helmets were worn by air raid wardens and fire crews during air raids.
